Recently a lot has been written about the transparency of IIT -JEE entrance examinations. Also the honourable HRD minister wants to bring some changes in this exam. In this context
1) do you think there should be a prelim exam before the mains?
2)will giving 70% weightage to marks of class XII be a good idea?

yes ma'am it's a good idea because at these some changes only most brilliant students are qualify.

More than brilliant student what I feel is unless the number of examinee in the qualifying exam reduces there can not be any reform in the question pattern and this MCQ type questions may not be able to judge real talent. It lot depends on the speed at which the students can think. I feel that only fast thinkers are not brilliant. Also to solve MCQ fast you concentrate more on technique than knowledge.

IIT admission test is bound to undergo a lot of change. One field where there has to be a lot of improvement is research.Actually I feel due to our education system we lack people who can do basic research. The proof of this lies in the fact that the only Indian University which figures in first two hundred in world ranking is Bombay IIT.On the contrary I was reading in an article that in U.S there is a dearth of good professionals. Very interesting. Anybody there--- who can comment upon this??

I feel comfort with a single IIT-JEE objective exam mam.If there were two exams(prelims and mains)it would generally create a mental tension,as we will be in preparation for other competative exams.

I think that the first point is not appreciable, because of other entrance examinations.I appreciate the second point as the number of students attempting the JEE will eventually be decreased, and only those students will appear for exam who have talent.

yah well.. i just want to make a point as IITian(student at IIT-M)..i feel what Ms/Mrs kajal have made a valid point that MCQ type of paper will not judge the real talent of the student. The preparation for IIT-JEE has to be different from other competitive exams where speed is the ultimate criteria..
now a days looking at the paper pattern also its not that subject oriented as it was when it was subjective..
and more over 70% weightage to marks obtained in boards is absolutely rediculous.

I think the exam should be brief with qualitative questions and their should be stress on 12th class marks. Also the student should be judged on practical comments so that a student is more practically tough than theoritical in future days.
