In the month of Nov - Dec, large number of test-series are introduced by number of coaching institutes. The philosophy of the product is to enable the students to judge his preparedness of exams. Is it the true reflector?
Lets analyze !
In any test series the students are suppose to compete among the limited number of test takers. In majority of the case one seldom get an opportunity to compete with the real competitors. Secondly, individual performance in terms of the marks obtained is not the correct reflector of performance as it entirely depends upon the quality of the questions.
Solution lies in the development of such a test in which questions are balanced and each question should be judged in accordance with different weightage depending upon the mass perceptions.
Lets exemplify it !! Suppose two questions one being very easy and other very tough is thrown to any student. If any student commit mistake in easy question, it means that his chance of cracking exam is very less in comparison to such students which commit mistake in tougher question. However, in both cases student will get the same mark in conventional test series, which certainly is not the correct reflector.
We, therefore, need a different system of testing with differential weightage for questions. That will perhaps reflect the correct picture....
